No One Has the Privilege of Inaction
“Unity Will Take Generations” was the title of an article by Ilhan Omar (a Minnesota state representative and the first Somali-American Muslim lawmaker) that appeared in the August 28 issue of TIME.
Omar wrote: “No one has the privilege of inaction. No one has the privilege of saying this is not their battle. If we are not actively fighting against regressive ideologies, we are contributing to their growth. We must be courageous. We must spread a radical vision of love and unity.”
Omar’s words inspired me to write this haiku that melds My 1000 Small Steps with his call to action.

As you reflect on what you are grateful for this Thanksgiving, I invite you to take a small step and support the candidacy of my nephew Bryan Caforio who is running for the U. S. House of Representatives in California’s 25th Congressional District.
Bryan embodies the belief that no one has the privilege of inaction!
